Editorial Review (from Amazon.com)
With passion, wit, and good common sense, the celebrated poet Mary Oliver tells of the basic ways a poem is built-meter and rhyme, form and diction, sound and sense. Drawing on poems from Robert Frost, Elizabeth Bishop, and others, Oliver imparts an extraordinary amount of information in a remarkably short space. “Stunning” (Los Angeles Times). Index.

Nic Sebastian thinks this book is Excellent.
The first guide to poetry writing and reading I ever read. A clear, incisive and thoroughly accessible book. Does not go into too much detail on any point -- exactly what the beginning poet needs. If poetry is a country to be explored, this book delineates the borders and principal geographical features. A great kicking-off point. Highly recommended.
