Sookie Stackhouse is just a small-time cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana. Until the vampire of her dreams walks into her life-and one of her coworkers checks out....Maybe having a vampire for a boyfriend isn't such a bright idea.
A fun, fast, funny, and wonderfully intriguing blend of vampire and mystery that's hard to put down, and should not be missed. (Susan Sizemore)

Avid thinks this book is Good.
A fast fun read. Take the lighter side of vampires, add some mystery, comedy, a little romance, and you come up with this.
MaTitwonky thinks this book is Worth Reading.
When I read that Alan Ball was going to make an HBO series based upon Charlaine Harris' vampire books, I immediately bought the first installment of her series even though vampire stories are not my favorite genre. Actually, after reading Dead Until Dark, I can safely say that vampire stories still are not my favorite genre -- except for this creative and imaginative series. Harris includes details of vampirism that simply had never occurred to me. But aside from that, her characters are likeable, the love story gets off to a start in this first book of the series, and the mystery itself is pretty decent as well. At some point I will read more of Harris' books, and I will definitely be on the look out for the Alan Ball television series.
