Leaving behind a world on the brink of destruction, man came to the Red planet and found the Martians waiting, dreamlike. Seeking the promise of a new beginning, man brought with him his oldest fears and his deepest desires. Man conquered Mars—and in that instant, Mars conquered him. The strange new world with its ancient, dying race and vast, red-gold deserts cast a spell on him, settled into his dreams, and changed him forever. Here are the captivating chronicles of man and Mars—the modern classic by the peerless Ray Bradbury.User Reviews (1) Login or create an account to write a review.
Ida thinks this book is Good.
This book was written in 1951 and shows it. Women are not well represented in this book as they represent women of the 40s & 50s, i.e. man-following servants. But isn't that the problem with science fiction set in the future? That it can be so far-reaching but not leave its own time behind. However, in saying that, the book is a work of art and who would expect less from this author. A collection of short stories that can stand alone but relate to each other, it's a good quick read and sometimes beautiful new world - particularly that world described in the first story.
