Editorial Review (from Amazon.com)

After losing her entire family to the Nazis at age 13, Alicia Appleman-Jurman went on to save the lives of thousands of Jews, offering them her own courage and hope in a time of upheaval and tragedy. Not since The Diary of Anne Frank has a young voice so vividly expressed the capacity for humanity and heroism in the face of Nazi brutality. HC: Bantam.

Missy thinks this book is Excellent.

A gripping and inspiring true story told by a courageous girl who lived through the Holocost. She survived with wit, courage, and yes, some lying. Her family is ripped away from her little at a time. She escapes being put in a concentration camp, but has to tread carefully and hide out in various places to avoid being caught. She lives on very little to eat, but she finds a few friends along the way. This made me think about all I have to be thankful for, and wonder if I could ever have the courage and compassion that Alicia did.

The dialogue and descriptions are as detailed as if the author was there yesterday, but there is nothing very gory, although, obviously, horrible things took place.

(My rating is somewhere between excellent and good because of some swearing and lying.)
